Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Free Social Media Scraper Chrome extension (the "Extension"), operated by Boring Marketing ("we", "us", "our"), handles information. The Extension is a general-purpose, page-agnostic tool that helps you mark data on web pages you are already viewing and build point-and-click automations, running entirely inside your own logged-in browser session.

The short version

• Everything the Extension does runs locally in your own browser, using your own access to pages you open.
• The data you mark, scrape, or capture stays on your device (in your browser's local storage). We do not receive it, and we never sell it.
• The only time data leaves your browser is if you choose the optional "Email it" feature, which sends the rows you extracted to our server so we can deliver them to the email address you enter.
• We do not track your browsing, run analytics inside the Extension, build advertising profiles, or sell or share your data.

1. What the Extension does

You open web pages yourself, in your own session. You then point and click to mark the fields you want (for example a name, a handle, a link) or to record a sequence of actions (click, hover, scroll, type, extract). The Extension reads the data that is already visible on those pages and assembles it into a clean table you can download as a CSV. It only ever acts on pages you have opened, at a human pace, and only reads content already rendered to you.

2. Information processed on your device (not sent to us)

The following is processed entirely within your browser and is never transmitted to us:

• Page content you mark or extract — the text, links and image references you select on the pages you visit.
• Your saved sequences, presets and drafts — stored in your browser's local storage so you can reuse them.
• Your last extraction results — kept locally so you can export them.

This information lives in chrome.storage.local on your own machine. You can clear it at any time by removing the Extension or clearing its data in your browser.

3. Information sent to our servers (only when you ask)

The Extension transmits data to our servers in exactly one situation: when you use the optional "Email it" feature to have your results delivered to your inbox. In that case, and only then, we receive:

• The email address you type into the field, and
• The rows of data you extracted that you chose to send.

We use this solely to generate and deliver the file to that address. We store the delivered records under a locked-down, service-key-only database used only to send the email and prevent duplicate deliveries. We do not sell this data, share it with third parties for their own use, or use it to build profiles or advertising audiences.

4. Permissions and why we request them

• activeTab & scripting — to inject the picker/runner into the tab you are on, only when you start it. We do not run in the background on your tabs.
• storage — to save your sequences, presets, drafts and last result locally on your device.
• tabs — to detect when a page finishes loading so a multi-step sequence can continue on the next page.
• host access (all sites) — required so a sequence you build can continue running after it navigates to another page or site. Scripts only run as part of an action you started; we do not read or send anything in the background.

5. What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
• We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers inside the Extension.
• We do not collect your browsing history, and we do not transmit the content of pages you visit (other than the rows you explicitly choose to email).
• We do not access data on pages you have not opened and acted on.

6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Our use of information received through the Extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide and improve the user-facing features described above, is not transferred to third parties except as required to deliver those features (and never for advertising), is not sold, and is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

7. Data retention and deletion

Data stored on your device remains until you remove it or uninstall the Extension. Records you email to yourself are retained only as long as needed to deliver and de-duplicate the message. You can request deletion of any data we hold by contacting us at [email protected].

8. Responsible use

The Extension is a productivity tool that automates what you could do by hand in your own session. You are responsible for only using it on pages and platforms you are authorized to access, in line with each site's terms of service and applicable laws governing how you collect and use data and contact people.
